Early Life and Education

Born April 1, 1950, in Trenton, New Jersey, Samuel Anthony Alito Jr. embarked on an illustrious legal career that would culminate in his appointment as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.

After graduating from Princeton University in 1972, Alito pursued his legal studies at Yale Law School, where he graduated with honors.

Career and Appointment to the Supreme Court

Alito's distinguished career began with his service in the United States Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey. He subsequently joined the Reagan administration as an assistant to the Solicitor General and later became the United States Attorney for New Jersey.

In 1990, President George H.W. Bush appointed Alito to the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. During his tenure on the Third Circuit, Alito authored influential opinions that solidified his reputation as a conservative jurist.

On January 31, 2006, Alito's career reached its pinnacle when President George W. Bush nominated him to the Supreme Court. After a contentious confirmation process, he was confirmed by the Senate and became an associate justice on the Court.
